Desert Light

It all started when I was late getting back to the RV in Arches National Park, I ran into this Irish guy who was quite talkative.  He was clearly set up to take photos, and waiting for the time of day to get just the right light.  He told me about his time getting lost in Bryce Canyon and staying over night because he had stayed out for the evening light and lost his way after dark.  He told me this was his third time in Utah, strictly to take photos, he remarked “There is just something special about the light here”. That comment stuck with me, so when I got back to the RV, I asked Charissa if we could stop and watch the sunset.  We did that, which was great, but then back on the road I couldn’t keep my eyes in my head.  Everywhere I looked the already beautiful scenery was turned up to eleven, the desert landscape took on this glow that I hadn’t seen elsewhere.  That night I was able to capture this photo.

Every night since then I tried to get myself into a spot where I could get a good view of the canyons, and the Irish guy was right, there really is something about the light in Utah.  Having been in California for over a week, even being in the similar desert landscape of Death Valley didn’t provide the same interplay of scenery and light.  I already miss those views I was able to see, luckily I was able to capture some of them on camera.  Check them out below, and if you ever get a chance, head on down to Utah.
